HostGator is one of the leading names in the web hosting industry. Their parent company, Endurance International Group (EIGI), began trading on Nasdaq as a public company on October 25th, 2013. Endurance is transforming the way small business does business by offering not only hosting, but marketing, SEO, and productivity solutions.

We are excited to announce that we are powering the cloud backup service that HostGator now offers their customers in the U.S. We have been working together for a few months, and we’ve learned enough to create something interesting to read – I hope!

Learnings from HostGator Partnership

1. APIs (application programming interface) are great. Our partnership with HostGator allows customers to sign up without needing to know their SFTP credentials or MySQL database names and passwords or needing to whitelist IPs, allowing anyone to get automatic daily website backup. You don’t have to be a website developer or technology guru to benefit from cloud website backup. The behind the scenes magic is that HostGator’s technology talks to ours and tells us what and when to backup.

2. HostGator.com has an incredible support team, all located in the United States (Houston and Austin, TX), and they provide 24×7 assistance to their customers. When customers need to use CodeGuard, it is often instigated by something that has gone wrong. And many times, having a knowledgeable support person on the phone or live chat to be there with you is a great comfort. And since the HostGator support team can look at server logs and assist customers with issues beyond just their backup, customers gain great benefit.

3. HostGator.com and Endurance have great integration teams and management/oversight. Without the integration team and management from Endurance, this partnership would not be possible. There are countless details and nuances that require attention for partnerships to work and work well. Communication, ownership, and prioritization are key. It takes commitment and investment to make a partnership successful, and for other hosting providers trying to decide if this is the right decision, you should carefully consider if you are willing to dedicate the time needed. How Do Customers Sign Up? Customers can sign up for CodeGuard in two ways: either when they buy their domain and hosting package from HostGator in the initial signup and registration flow, or through an icon in their control panel.

While CodeGuard has been powering cloud backup for HostGator for almost three months, it is just the beginning. I have seen overwhelmingly positive feedback from HostGator customers = proof that the partnership is exceeding our expectations. Our integration teams worked together, almost as one unit, prior to launch, and now our operational and support teams are working together to maintain and improve the offering.
